The place was packed even though I got there just before 2pm. Large tables of friends and family talking, barstools with people trying the beer and those ducking in for a quick bite before heading back out into the 'sea breeze'.
We tried out the Margherita (tomato, boconcinni & basil, pictured below) and the Ham & Pineapple. Made in the woodfired pizza oven (only from Friday - Sunday) both were tasty and the girls liked them. Would probably be good for sitting around the bar while drinking beer. I was eyeing off the fish & chips on a table near us which looked good!
The pizzas are $19 and $21 for the ones we got, I think a few have changed from what is listed on their website.
The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. One of them was even lucky enough to get to dress up as a penguin and pass out chupachups to all the kids there, my 4 year old was very excited!
The view was fantastic even on such a horrible day. We watched the kite surfers zooming back and forth and the tankers slowly moving along for their turn in the harbour. It's very well protected even on a windy day.
The decor is a mix. We were on a table that felt like it had been on a beachside balcony for years slowly having the paint fading with its matching laid back chairs. There were some couches around the beachside windows, bars with barstools near the patio heaters and larger tables. Plenty of highchairs available.
Salt on the Beach is one of the most child friendly restaurants I've visited. First of all when you park the kids will be able to see the playground which is in the corner which is like most you'd see at your local park, big fort, tube slide and more. When you order be sure to grab a kids pack which is a little bag full of goodies to keep the kids entertained while they wait (or while you enjoy dessert) $2. There is a kids menu with a HUGE selection, pizza, fish & chips, chicken and pumpkin risotto and grilled fish on mash are just a few, prices range from $10 to $14. Also, Friday night from 5.30-7.30pm they have free kids entertainment including face painting, colouring-in and more, from November to March it's also Thursday nights. You can also book it for a kids birthday party!
Check out their webpage for extra promotions like 25% off weekday meals or free beer/wine on the weekend.
Think we might be back to try out some other options and might have to convince my Mum friends for a weekday lunch meet!
