The second we walked in the Ishka Restaurant at The Breakwater in Hillarys I could tell it wasn't exactly kid friendly. Sure they tried with their clean changeroom for babies, highchair and kids menu that isn't written anywhere but we didn't feel welcome.
Luckily when we got there it was a Monday night so totally deserted..... until 7pm when it was jam packed! Who'd have thought Monday night would be so popular?
I'll start with the service before I get to the food. We arrived at 6.30pm, were shown to our table then desserted. Another couple came in and stood waiting to be seated while the staff chatted around the other end of the bar for at least 5 minutes. My husband had to call the waitress over to take our order for drinks and turkish bread ($18) . Maybe they don't properly start until 7pm as the service was much better later when it was busier.
Finally those we were dining with turned up with 2 extras (my niece and nephew) but the staff showed us to a new table which was lovely.
We placed our orders which came out quite quickly. My husband and I were sharing the seafood platter ($110) for two which was delicious though quite small for the price. I definitely recommend the crab and the oysters were fresh with a zingy dressing. Our children had the kids fish 'n' chips ($17) which was generous with thick cut chips, 2 pieces of fish and a garden salad and the waitress bought out more sauce when my dip happy 20 month old ran out. My Mum ordered the seafood entree ($24) as her main which was like a smaller seafood platter with the same crab as the main so good value for money.
We decided to pass on dessert as the kids were over sitting still and grabbed an icecream from the boardwalk on our way back to the car.
The location of Ishka is gorgeous with water views out 3 sides and you can watch the sunset over the ocean as you dine. Would be nice for a special occasion but definitely wouldn't do it with children again though we are going to try out the Sunday breakfast this Sunday but will let you know how that goes.
